Alma Preta’s coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, supported by DiversaCom, marked a milestone in Brazilian sports journalism as the first independent Black media outlet to receive official accreditation. This enabled an inclusive perspective on Brazil’s participation and the event as a whole—particularly during an edition defined by the prominence of Black Brazilian female athletes on the podium.
DiversaCom was involved in every stage of the project. In the lead-up to the Games, it organized talks for the Alma Preta newsroom featuring experienced sports journalists and facilitated engagement with the Brazilian Olympic Committee. During the Games, it provided daily editorial guidance to the Alma Preta teams in both Paris and Brazil.
Alma Preta’s coverage sparked reflection and debate regarding race, culture, and human rights in the context of sports and the planet’s largest multi-sport event.
